An open letter to new TFA recruits
I wholeheartedly agree with this post by Katie Osgood on @TheChalkFace. As I’ve worked on my MEd degree to become certified, I’ve had a change of heart on what it takes to be an effective teacher (and had deal with my well-meaning friends saying things like “it’s BS that you have to get another degree to be a teacher!”). I applied for a program very similar to TFA, the Chicago Teaching Fellows, but wasn’t admitted because I applied late in the cycle, and I really believe that it turned out better this way. I’m eternally grateful for the training I’ve received through my Master’s program, and I believe my future students will reap the benefits of the time it took to really prepare to teach.
